July 1932
In the Old Boys’ section of the school magazine of July 1932 it is announced that the Old Boys have formed a Machine-Gun Platoon in conjunction with the Machine-Gun Company of the 4th Bn. Oxf. and Bucks Lt Infantry.
“Recruits sign on as Territorials for four years and are required to do a minimum of forty drills in the first year and twenty in subsequent years. The battalion normally goes to Camp for fifteen days each year……
The machine-gunner has one of the most interesting jobs in the Battalion and those who join will find it a most fascinating hobby, whilst at the same time they will be doing a service to the country, for it is only an efficient Territorial Army that enables us to carry on with such a small Regular Army……
Territorials are put to no expense as uniform etc. is supplied free and Army rates of pay are paid at Camp, in addition to an Annual Bounty granted to all who have fired the Annual Course (rifle or machine-gun) and put in the required number of drills. During the winter additional attractions are miniature rifle shooting, boxing, badminton, etc.”
