From THE CITY OF OXFORD HIGH SCHOOL MAGAZINE VoL. LVIII, iii JULY 1966 No. 186
On the whole this has been a very successful year for the School as far as music is concerned.
The school choir played a leading role in the Oxford Music Festival which went off very well. The first item chosen for the senior part of the Festival was Saint Nicolas by Benjamin Britten. This was considered, by the ‘experts’, too difficult for the average schoolboy or girl, but under the direction of Oxford’s new musical adviser Mr. Saint it was a success. The second item was movements from Handel’s Six Chandos Anthem. In both items, through the excellent direction of Mr. Busby, the school choir proved itself the backbone of the performance.

As in the previous year, the annual school concert was held at the beginning of the summer term in order to avoid a clash with the examinations. It consisted of a very full programme lasting about two and a half hours. The choir items, especially the movements from the Six Chandos Anthem, were very popular. The orchestra played especially well in spite of the leader being unable to take part. About two weeks before the actual concert he fell and broke his wrist. This necessitated a last minute shuffling around of parts in quartets, solo pieces and other items, and fortunately Mr. M. Gosling, a leader in past years, was able to get leave of absence from his employers and stepped into the breach to ably lead the full orchestra pieces. All items were well played and both the evenings were very successful.
As everybody knows, we are soon to merge with Southfield School and I hope that the new choirs and orchestras will carry on the good work with the new music master.
On behalf of the present and past choirs and orchestras I should like to thank Mr. Busby, on his retirement, for the time, help and encouragement he has always given so cheerfully and unsparingly, and to wish him and Mrs. Busby a long and happy life in Devon.
