The Ronnie Barker Blue Plaque
The blue plaque to commemorate comedian Ronnie Barker – who was an Old Boy of the OHS and lived at no 23 Church Cowley Road – was inaugurated on 29 September 2012. The late Mike Chew, who was then Chairman of COSA, was invited to say a few words:
An Account of the Falkland Islands Action 1914
This firsthand account of the World War I Falkland Islands Action on 8th December 1914 was submitted to the OHS magazine by Norman Kent (OHS approx 1891-1898) within four days of the battle and published in 1915 “by permission of the censor”. He was serving as the chaplain on HMS Kent when the conflict erupted.
