OXFORD MAIL – Wednesday January 8th, 2003, p13 by Monica Sloan
Noted musician wins knighthood
AN ACCLAIMED musician and composer from Oxford has received a knighthood from the King of Norway.
Trevor Ford [COHS 1943-?1950] 71, who grew up in Cornwallis Road, Cowley, before emigrating to Norway in 1968, will meet King Harald V tomorrow to thank him for his knighthood. He was awarded the title Knight, first class, of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, for services to music.

The former Oxford High School for Boys pupil began having piano lessons at the age of five and violin lessons at the age of 12. He joined the Royal Marine Band Service as & band boy in 1946 and was appointed the youngest ever Bandmaster at the time in 1960. A former head of music for the Norwegian Band Federation, he founded the Norwegian Youth Band and was the first president of the World Association of Symphonic Bands Ensemble. He has written more than 100 works for band and several music theory books.
Sir Trevor described the honour as a great surprise. He said: “The audience with the King is partly because the King likes to meet anyone receiving such awards, but also to give the recipient a chance to officially thank His Majesty.”
Trevor Ford (1932-2025)
